Third Greek edition of Plato's dialogues (Basel, 1556)

Early greek editions of Plato's works

The newest acquisition for my library is the greek edition of Plato's Opera by the Basilian renaissance scholar Marcus Hopper (died in 1564). He was a professor for greek, logic, natural sciences and law (Institutiones). The edition was printed by Henricus Petri, in March 1556, in folio. It is the third greek edition of the corpus platonicum. For a description of the edition see Frank Hieronymus:

My edition was bound in a mediaeval latin copy of the Prophet Isaiah with an interlinear commentary. The picture shows chapter 4, 19: "non recogitant in mente sua neque cognoscunt ..., et reliquo eius idolum faciam ante truncum ligni procidam."
